How does hypnosis work over Zoom?

Hypnosis works by guiding you into a deep state of relaxation, allowing you to access your subconscious mind. The key to a successful hypnosis session is feeling safe and comfortable. Since your home environment is likely your most familiar and secure space, it can actually be easier to achieve this state of relaxation compared to a new office setting. The beauty of hypnosis is that it doesn't require a physical location. This makes online hypnotherapy sessions through Zoom a convenient and accessible option for pain management. 

Hypnosis works by bringing on a trance state, and working with your subconscious to make suggestions for positive change. This trance state is achieved by making you feel nice and relaxed, asking you to imagine or think about certain things while paying close attention to the comfort of your body. Since your home is likely to be where you feel most safe and comfortable, it actually becomes easier to achieve this trance state. All hypnosis needs is a therapist to guide you into the trance state and through the suggestions, they don’t actually need to be in the room with you at all. That’s why it’s completely possible to do hypnotherapy over Zoom.

Taking Time for Yourself


Before diving into the specifics of preparing your space, it's important to prioritize your own well-being.  Allow yourself ample time before and after your online hypnotherapy session. This isn't about elaborate preparations, but simply creating space to relax and mentally prepare without feeling rushed. Here's what that looks like:

Schedule Buffer Time:

Give yourself a buffer of at least 15 minutes before your appointment. This allows you to unwind, settle into your chosen space, and avoid the stress of last-minute scrambling.


Post-Session Decompression:  

Similarly, try to carve out 5-10 minutes after the session to process your experience. This decompression time allows you to integrate the suggestions and maximize the benefits of the session.
 

Getting ready for your first online hypnotherapy session is a big step towards managing your pain.

Email link at the ready 
Have the email containing the session link easily accessible on your device.


Tablet or Laptop for Enhanced Stability 
While a phone can be used for your session, a tablet or laptop offers a larger screen and a sturdier base. This can be particularly helpful during our initial conversation, as it allows you to prop the device up comfortably for a hands-free discussion. This way, you can focus on our conversation without worrying about holding the device steady.


Comfort is Key
Comfortable position for discussion and relaxation: Choose a room where you can comfortably have a conversation at the beginning of the session, and then easily transition to lying down or a relaxed seated position for the hypnosis portion.

● Dress for relaxation  
Wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing that won't restrict your movement.


● Ringer off
Turn your phone ringer and any other notifications on your devices to silent mode to avoid disruptions.

● Headphones or Earbuds Recommended for Enhanced Focus: 

Headphones or earbuds will not only help you focus on my voice and block out any remaining background noise, but they can also enhance the quality of the audio. This allows you to hear my voice more clearly and precisely, which can contribute to a more effective hypnosis session. 

● Bonus Tip

Have a glass of water nearby: Staying hydrated can enhance your relaxation.
